Staff Recruitment and Training 

  • The management team must ensure that all staff looking after children is suitable to fulfil the requirements of their roles.
  • Staff must disclose any convictions, cautions, court orders, reprimands and warnings which may affect their suitability to work with children whether received before or during their employment at the setting.
  • Candidates are interviewed by senior members of staff and successful candidates will be given staff application form to fill in their details.
  • A letter and application form will be sent by the Preschool manager offering the job, subject to satisfactory DBS checks, references and health checks.
  • The manager or Preschool director check the evidence required for the DBS check, passport, driving licence, birth certificate and two documents for proof of address. Copies of these documents are kept on file.
  • Staff will serve a three months’ probation period. The probationary period can be extended or shortened depending on employer discretion and outcome.
  • Every new staff is given induction
  • We provide safeguarding training opportunities for all members of staff to ensure that they recognise the signs of possible physical abuse, neglect, emotional abuse and sexual abuse.

We use employment agencies who can demonstrate that they positively vet their supply staff and will report the misconduct of agency staff to the agency concerned.

Training

Lone workers will be trained in safe working practices. This will apply to employees and other workers where applicable, such as agency staff and contractors.

First Aid

All members of staff are required to undertake the Level 2 Paediatric Medic First Aid course and update the qualification every three years.
